Dracula 2000 (2000) Review: The Forgotten Wes Craven Vampire Movie Revisited

Released in 2000 and produced by Wes Craven, Dracula 2000 is a late-era attempt to reinvent the iconic vampire for a new generation. Starring Gerard Butler in one of his earliest major roles, the film blends early 2000s style with a surprising twist on classic Dracula mythology.

In this review, I revisit Dracula 2000 to see if it deserves a second look or if it’s better left forgotten. The film features a stacked cast including Christopher Plummer, Jonny Lee Miller, Jennifer Esposito, and Omar Epps, along with a nu-metal soundtrack and a distinctly Y2K aesthetic.

While the movie has its share of flaws, including weak dialogue, inconsistent logic, and some questionable creative choices, it also offers an intriguing reinterpretation of Dracula’s origin, tying the character to religious mythology in a way that stands out from other adaptations.

Is Dracula 2000 an underrated horror film, or just a relic of its time?
